Hi all. Here’s a brief update for those of you (and at this point the list is growing short) who don’t follow either of us on Twitter:

New podcast next month (see below). I’m kinda getting itchy to go back to recording. If there’s a series, movie or manga that you want covered let us know via email.

More written reviews next week. I’m enjoying doing written pieces on otakunews and MMF and I’m looking forward to expanding stuff into our site as well.

Hello, and welcome to something called a podcast. We used to do these things, ya know?

In this, the first show of the year, I tackled the GAINAX show, Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt. while Oni takes on the show Demon King Daimao. We also catch up on the time in between and what we got up to in the downtime. Plus, an apology for someone who has never met Oni. Remember, it’s all Oni’s fault.

Thanks to everyone who has stuck with us for all these months! This proves that you love us, you really love us!

OK, so the Winter season is on us. So with that in mind, for the first time in the history of the site, myself and Oni will be tackling some of the shows. I’ve decided to only tackle stuff that’s streaming legally. Here are our choices for the season:

Hourou Musuko – Wandering Son

Oh, boy. I am looking forward to this. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about an anime or manga since I read A Drunken Dream. Boy meets girl in school. Girl wants to be a boy. Boy wants to be a girl. It’s not played for laughs. Lordy, I can feel the hope on the streets with this title. Please, please, watch this. Convince Japan to make more of this stuff. Wandering Son starts simulcasting January 13th from Crunchyroll

Rio – Rainbow Gate!

From the wiki entry on it: In an island casino called the Howard Resort, Rio Rollins is a popular casino dealer with an uncanny ability to bring good luck to gamblers just by walking past them, earning her the nickname “The Goddess of Winning”. Mint Clark, a young child, comes to the Howard Resort with her grandfather and encounters Rio, and the two become the best of friends.

However, Rio’s life suddenly changes when she obtains one of the 13 legendary cards called “Gates”, and gets involved in a tournament for the title of “Most Valuable Casino Dealer” (MVCD). With her reputation on the line, Rio must compete against the world’s top gamblers to become MVCD.

I know exactly what I’m letting myself in for here. I don’t care. I must balance high stuff like Hourou Musuko with Rio. Just roll with me on this one. Rio – Rainbow Gate! is streaming right now on Crunchyroll.

Dragon Crisis

Boy finds girl. Boy likes girl. Girl needs to protected from shadowy forces. Boy offers to protect girl. Girl turns out to be a Dragon Girl. Who knew? Dragon Crisis will start simulcasting on Crunchyroll from the 11th January

Beelzebub

OK, guy rescues baby, finds out he’s the pick to protect the child, who happens to the son of the demon king. Oni will love this. Yeah, this is going to be goooood. Beelzebub is currently streaming in North America and Europe from Crunchyroll

I can hear the ocean…and my co-host crying

Today we tackle Ocean Waves (or I Can Hear the Sea) from Studio Ghibli, our first review from that studio. I hope we did ok with the review but you lot can me tell other wise. While talking about Ocean Waves, Oni makes a connection in the roles of Liam Neeson of late.

Sense a pattern forming here?

We briefly touch off the passing of Robotech producer, Carl Macek. We will talk about Mr. Macek on another show but Oni does share some opinions on the man. In the meantime check out the tributes to Carl on Robotech.com.

We also tackle the thorny issue of what will Oni review for the next show. We had a fair few suggestions. Which one won? You’ll have to watch it and see!

If you’re wondering what I’m chewing on during the show it’s a yoghurt desert.

1) Get a glass, like a whiskey glass, fill the base with fruit preserve.
2) Fill in with fresh yoghurt (flavoured or not).
3) Top with crushed biscuit.
4) Leave in fridge (uncovered) for two to three hours.
5) Enjoy!

Apollo’s Song

What’s an Apollo’s song? In a shell an Osamu Tezuka story full of deep inner meaning, self denial and oddly placed humour. Shogo (Apollo) is cursed by the goddess of love, Aphrodite, as a penance towards his cruel and cold hearted approach to love. Shogo is given a couple of chances, during various times thorough human history, to experience real love but because of the curse is destined to lose that love every single time. The story its self is well crafted and enjoyable apart from the unusually placed “fourth wall” comedy moments. If you find it, add it to your collection , it does appeal to a broader audience then most current publications.

This week myself and Aaron from the Weekly Anime Review take a look at Super Dimension Century Orguss, a classic series from the 1980′s. You know “the before time”. Anywho, a hiccup has meant that the two volumes I own and the one volume Aaron owns, are the only ones we can have at the moment. Imaginasian and TMS are working to start printing more DVD’s soon but it’s not looking good folks.

This show is the twin to my appearance on the WARP anime podcast hosted by Aaron. Check out it here. Aaron released his show AGES ago before he even went on holiday! Oh, well.
